Members and upvotes measure different things
Reddit has two distinct targets: a single post and a community. Upvote services raise a post’s score and aim to lift it up the listing. Subreddit member services raise the community’s own subscriber count.
The two are entirely independent: a post that collects no votes stays invisible even in a subreddit with 100,000 members, and conversely a post gathering votes quickly in a small community can reach r/all. The most common mistake is submitting a post address instead of a community address, or the reverse. Member services only work with a /r/ community address; a post address is for upvote services.
